Hexagon Pulse

A frame of the Hexagon Pulse preset in Deus.

A flat field of 127 hexagons, laid out as one large hexagon, turns slowly about the centre of the screen. Cells light up in translucent colour with bright outlines when the music reaches them, their corners bulge outward, and a soft glow with expanding rings appears behind the field on bass hits.

Each cell is tied to a part of the spectrum chosen mostly by its distance from the centre, so low frequencies light the inner cells and higher ones the outer cells, with variation by direction. A lit cell holds its brightness and fades gradually. Colours shift continuously with the band position, and the whole field stays dark in silence.

What it reacts to

  • Spectrum: each cell lights when its band rises above a threshold, inner cells for low bands and outer cells for high ones
  • Bass hits: the centre cells flare, rings expand outward and the glow behind the field widens
  • Treble hits: bright outlines spark on active cells and the rotation briefly quickens
  • Mids: speed up the rotation
  • Waveform: wobbles the cell edges

Music that suits it

Music with punchy bass hits and lively hi-hats, such as house, hip-hop or synth-pop, makes the field pulse from the centre outward.
