Hexagon Spectrum 3D

A frame of the Hexagon Spectrum 3D preset in Deus.

A tilted honeycomb of 91 hexagonal columns stands on a dark floor seen in perspective. Columns rise and fall with the music, each with shaded side faces, a lighter cap and glowing neon edges that leave short trails, while rings ripple outward across the floor.

Each column listens to its own slice of the spectrum. The slice depends mainly on the distance from the centre, low frequencies in the middle and higher ones toward the rim, with some variation by direction so neighbouring columns differ. A column grows when its band stands out against nearby bands, holds its peak, then sinks at its own rate, and the camera sways slowly around the field.

What it reacts to

  • Spectrum: each column rises when its band stands out, low bands near the centre and high bands toward the rim
  • Bass hits: a ring ripples out across the floor and the central columns lift
  • Treble hits: quick pale ripples, and sparks flick from the caps of active columns
  • Mids: a sweep of extra height and shimmer travels across the grid, and the camera sways further

Music that suits it

Music with distinct bass hits and crisp percussion, such as electronic pop, house or drum and bass, sends rings across the floor while the columns trace the melody.
