Note Bloom
Watch Note Bloom live in the browser
Soft points of coloured light orbit the centre of the screen in loose ellipses, leaving faint trails. There are twelve families of them, one for each note of the chromatic scale, and each family has its own hue, the twelve notes set 30° apart around the colour wheel.
Only notes that are sounding appear. When a note is detected its particles light up, grow while the note is held, and the leading note glows a little more; when it stops they cool and fade over a second or so. A chord shows up as a small cluster of colours.
What it reacts to
- Detected notes: each pitch class lights its own family of particles in its own colour
- Held notes: the particles grow and heat up the longer the note lasts
- Strongest note: its particles glow the most
- Released notes: the particles cool and fade out
Music that suits it
Music with clear pitches, such as piano, guitar, choirs or synth pads, shows it best; drum-heavy or noisy tracks give few clear notes.
