Inside Computer

A frame of the Inside Computer preset in Deus.

A forward flight through a polygonal tunnel whose walls are a printed circuit board: dark green board, rectangular cut-outs with glowing rims, fine cyan traces and broader amber ones. The camera rolls slowly and sways a little, and the board's colour drifts as the flight goes on.

The walls carry a triplanar circuit texture, so the traces wrap continuously over the faceted surfaces. The distance flown is driven only by the music's loudness clock: the tunnel moves forward while the music plays and stops in silence. The preset takes its idea from a visual called Circuit Bending.

What it reacts to

  • Loudness: drives the forward flight, the camera roll and the drifting wall colour
  • Treble hits: pulse the fine cyan traces
  • Bass hits: pulse the amber traces and tint the walls
  • Onsets: flash scattered glints on the board and strengthen the specular highlight

Tune

Base speed scales the flight speed, and Rotation speed the camera's roll and sway.

Music that suits it

Electronic music with crisp highs and a punchy low end, such as techno or electro, makes the cyan and amber traces flicker in alternation.
