Kaleidoscope Scope
Watch Kaleidoscope Scope live in the browser
An oscilloscope trace folded into a kaleidoscope. Ten mirrored segments surround the centre, and in each one the sound's waveform is drawn as a glowing line that runs outward, so together they form a slowly rotating star or flower whose edges tremble with the sound.
Each segment has its own hue, spaced evenly around the colour wheel and slowly cycling. Because the trace is the waveform itself, not the spectrum, a pure, steady tone draws calm, regular petals, while noisy or distorted sounds make the outline jagged.
What it reacts to
- Waveform: shapes the trace in every segment
- Bass: the line grows thicker and softer
- Overall loudness: brightens and widens the trace
- Mids: deepen the colour saturation
Music that suits it
Music with clean, sustained tones, such as synth leads, bass-heavy electronic tracks or solo instruments, draws clear shapes; distorted rock makes them ragged.
