Waveform Tunnel

Watch Waveform Tunnel live in the browser

Ten concentric rings, each one the live waveform bent around a circle, stacked from a small ring at the centre to a wide one near the edge so that they read as a tunnel. A soft glow sits in the middle.

Each ring turns at its own speed, the outer ones fastest, and has its own hue, the whole set rotating through the colour wheel over time. Earlier frames fade out gradually instead of being cleared, which leaves short motion trails behind the turning rings.

What it reacts to

• Waveform: shapes the wobble of every ring
• Bass: widens the rings, thickens their lines and enlarges the core glow
• Overall loudness: brightens the rings and the core

Music that suits it

Music with clear, simple tones, such as synth leads, bass lines or solo instruments, gives smooth, readable ring shapes; dense mixes make them jagged.
