Rain Window

A frame of the Rain Window preset in Deus.

A night view through a rain-covered window: fogged glass, small beads and larger drops that slide down, each drop a tiny lens with the city inverted inside it. Behind the pane the street is out of focus, with lit windows, sodium street lamps, headlights, a neon sign and their reflections on the wet road, all drawn as bokeh discs with brighter rims, the way a real lens renders point lights.

The drops gather water until gravity wins, then meander down and wipe clear trails that slowly fog over again. All motion runs on a clock that follows the music, so in silence the pane holds still.

What it reacts to

  • Snare: lands a new drop in a random lane
  • Hi-hats: add beads to the glass and feed water into the drops
  • Kick drum: sends a gust that hurries every sliding drop and flashes the headlights
  • Bass: swells the street lamps and lit windows
  • Treble: makes the neon sign buzz and speeds up condensation

Tune

Rain sets how much water gathers on the glass, Bokeh size the size of the blurred city lights, and City tint the colour of the city.

Music that suits it

Tracks with busy hi-hats and a clear snare, such as trip-hop or lo-fi hip-hop, keep the rain coming, while quieter songs let the drops slide slowly.
