Thingy
Watch Thingy live in the browser
A single glassy object turning in the dark: a thick spherical shell wrinkled by ripples, with a smaller core inside, lit by a key light and a bright rim along its outline. The camera circles it slowly while the object itself twists.
It is raymarched from a distance function: space is pushed in and out by sine waves, twisted around two axes and carved into an outer shell around an inner sphere. The surface shifts between cold blue and warm pink and takes on the colour of the notes being played.
What it reacts to
- Bass pulses: the shells breathe in and out
- Spectrum: low bands thicken the outer shell, higher bands shape its ripples
- Notes: tint the rim light and the surface
- Treble pulses: the ripples deepen and the rim brightens
- Attacks: highlights flare and the core swells
Tune
Base speed sets how fast the surface waves move, Camera rotation and Matter rotation set how fast the camera circles and the object twists, and Brightness scales the overall light.
Music that suits it
Melodic music with a clear bass line, such as synth-pop or melodic house, shows the note colours and the breathing together.
